So people still use dial up?

Labels: , , ,

I never thought that people still used dial-up internet, but I guess some still do. I’m so used to using the big two in my area: Cox and Verizon. Of course both services require more; buying packages and whatnot. As a gamer I personally scoff at the idea – dial up? DSL?

For my internet service?

I can envision WoW being exceeding painful to play on such speeds. But this is me the gamer speaking. What about people like my Ma who simply wants a no frills internet service? Many people nowadays use cell phones or voip services. And TV is more and more moving to online. So much so I rarely watch regular TV and view things online.

Seems there are services that know, providing bare bones internet from varying levels. If you barely cruise the net - pay for just dial up. You want a bit faster speed in the form of dsl to make those internet calls and watch you tube? Just pay a little more. I’ve seen places as low as $9.99 for simply no frills dial up. I’m tempted to get my Grandma on board with this.

When we lived together she was adamant about having net she barely used, TV she could watch online and a phone she barely remember to charge up (it was cordless). I’m thinking now that she lives in a smaller place (and I in my own wewt!? With higher end net.) she could stand to downsize to something manageable internet wise along with her smaller digs.

Oh my god, i never imagined dial-up actually existed right now somewhere. In my area (South of Russian Federation) it's been completely shutdown as a technical possibility for several years now.

Yar, rather surprising to me too. I personally would find it impossible to work with...but I guess if you barely do anything but say check email on it and are on a tight budget, it (sorta) works.
