Finally broke down and got myself a Wii
Well I gave in. To what you may ask? I purchased a used floor model Wii. I didn't care it was used; it came together as if it was new with everything sans a game for a cool $100 off ebay. I knew I'd get one sooner or later but finally I caved. Now you know how I enjoy modding things? Well there is in fact a mod for the Wii but unlike the PS2 it doesn't require me to go inside and tinker. No in fact just a chip here and a flash there...
But as I plan on doing this, I have to think of how to back up my impending Wii collection. That (next to playing imports) was the big reason why I had my PS and PS2 modded in the first place. But I figured my old ripping software for back ups would not cut it for Wii games. So I looked around and found DVD Ripper.
This (and the mac version DVD Ripper Mac) will allow me to back up the games files to my PC (if I don't flash them) along with other tasty options like supporting: iPod, iPhone, PSP, PS3, Xbox, 3GP phones plus more stuff I haven't even heard of.
So these guys may be a contender. But right now I'm waiting on my stuff from New egg. It's like Christmas but early!

Heh, it took me a while to buy a Wii, too. Funny, though--I stuck it right in storage only a few months after I got it. I just never really got around to playing it, heh.

Heh, well being all spankin 'new' my Wii is currently chilling here instead of storage with Paper Mario on it.

i have a modded wii for, like, over two years. got it off some online shop, and they modded it in a really half-assed way, because to play some games i have to turn it upside down or sideways, and the game could stop working in the middle of playing...
btw i have a question here, how do you rip wii games? i remember that a year ago or so it was possible to rip wii games only on two specific dvd drive models (mine wasn't the one of them, so i couldn't back up my wii discs). i take it, either something changed or mac drives are all pretty fine for wii discs?

Sorry for the late comment - dang holidays! Well unlike a ps2 you can modify not the wii itself but rather it's software. Each unit has a sort of Bios inside each one. There's methods where you using a D, or SD card or any portable storage unit that has usb connectivity to imput in programs to circumvent the standard Wii bios.
I currently use bootmii, Neogamma and a few other tweeks. My friend Nemmy (no real relation to the Tyrant XD) uses a different program but the methods she shows on her channel are pretty much the same.
